Carol Blackwood is 1st Alto (with occasional adventures into 2nd Soprano!)
Carol has worked at the Lutheran School of Dallas for the past 21 years and also serves as Director of Children’s Music at NorthPark Presbyterian Church. Music from morning to night!
Carol started singing with The Contemporary Chorale in 2013—the very same year her daughter graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Coincidence? Nope! She absolutely needed this amazing outlet for music, friendship, and all the joy it continues to bring—especially alongside the rowdy and talented Altos she loves to sing with and serve as Alto Coordinator!
What inspired her to join?
Carol told Melanie she’d join when her daughter (Melanie’s voice student) left for college. According to legend, Melanie texted her the details while Carol was at graduation… or so the story goes.
Favorite song or performance?
Time Warp! (Because what’s not to love?)
Singing, acting and stuff...
Carol doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t singing—choirs, musicals, cruise ships, clubs… you name it! Fun fact: she sang in a Manhattan Transfer–style quartet that won the Manhattan Area Cabaret Award in the early ’90s. Talk about harmony goals!
Fun fact people might be surprised to learn:
Carol has a BFA in Acting and enjoyed a career in voiceover, on-camera, and film work. She even played Jesse Plemons’ mom on the TV series Friday Night Lights—so when he wins an Oscar someday, she’ll proudly claim to be “Oscar Adjacent!”

Hanging out with friends.
Favorite binge?
Carol and her daughter will happily binge all the Harry Potter movies together!

The incomparable Bernadette Peters.
