John first sang with the chorale in 2009 when men were invited to join for a performance. He officially became a member in 2011. He was recruited by his wife and Melanie — and his son, Ken Wood, joined in too. A true family affair!

What inspired you to join?
When the invitation went out in 2009 for men to sing along, John was happily persuaded by his wife and Melanie. He’s been singing with us ever since.
Favorite song or performance?
John says he doesn’t have one particular favorite — he just enjoys the experience of performing.
Have you performed in other groups?
Well… John’s stage debut was as a Christmas tree in first grade at Volker Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. He doesn’t recall having a solo, but by all accounts, he was a dynamite tree.
Fun fact:
John never attended the same school two years in a row and went to eight colleges before earning his B.S. in Computer Science. Talk about perseverance!

Favorite movie?
The Flight of the Phoenix. In fact, he has a movie collection of over 2,000 films!
Dream performance partner?
Dolly Parton — because, as John says, “She seems happy all the time.”
Bucket list goal?
Spend the night in South Dakota. It’s the only state where he hasn’t stayed overnight!
