Jonathell Meyer

The Contemporary Chorale is thrilled to shine the spotlight on Jonathell Meyer, who has rejoined our second soprano section this season. For Jonathell, The Contemporary Chorale has been a joyful part of her life on and off for decades, and we’re delighted to welcome her back into the fold.

A Musical Journey Full of Harmony
Jonathell first joined TCC in 1979, back when the group was made up entirely of women. She recalls the fun they had performing in elaborate costumes and the excitement of singing and dancing to A Chorus Line—a performance she remembers as “a real blast.”

Her love of choral music has carried her through the years, leading her to sing with the Plano Civic Chorus in 1999–2000 and later with the Allen Symphony Chorus beginning in 2003. Along the way, she also performed with a Sweet Adeline’s group in Allen. Jonathell returned to The Contemporary Chorale in 2014–2016, and after several years devoted to the Allen Symphony Chorus, she is overjoyed to be back with TCC once more. And we are too!

A Name with a Story
When asked for a fun fact, Jonathell shared the unique origin of her name:

“My father’s name was John and my mother’s name was Geneva Thell, so they just put them together. I guarantee I am the only Jonathell in existence!”

It’s a name as special and memorable as the person behind it.

Life Beyond the Music
When she’s not singing, Jonathell enjoys a good book—especially historical novels—or unwinding with TV shows like NCIS. She also loves bowling and playing bridge.

If she could share the stage with any artist, past or present, her dream would be to sing with Julie Andrews or Josh Groban. She has a bucket-list dream: witnessing the breathtaking Aurora Borealis in person.

Words of Wisdom
Jonathell’s advice to new and returning members reflects her deep appreciation for TCC’s community and leadership:

“Listen to the recordings, come to rehearsals, and simply enjoy the time under Melanie. She’s the best director I have ever had the pleasure to sing with.”
