Randy Wilson has been singing with The Contemporary Chorale since 2016, bringing depth, dedication, and a love of music to the Bass section.
How It All Began
When the UTD Community Chorale program ended, Randy and several fellow singers hoped to keep the music alive by forming a community group. Unsure if that would succeed, he began searching for another nearby choir—and that’s when he found The Contemporary Chorale. “Most of the others I looked at were just too far away,” he says. “Along came The Contemporary Chorale.”
Musical Memories
While Randy has an appreciation for classical choral works, he admits the show tunes are “lots of fun.” He even landed a solo in his very first spring concert—an experience that helped him shed any trace of shyness.
Randy’s musical journey began in college at Thiel, where he joined the choir after hearing they would tour Europe. “Belonging to that choir required taking voice lessons, which came with a recital requirement—so I got over being shy,” he laughs. “Beer helps.”
After college, Randy became a Naval Aviator and joined the Naval Aviation Command Choir while in training at Pensacola. The group toured the U.S., performing at the Super Bowl, Miss America Pageant, and on TV. He’s still on the roster for the Naval Aviation Alumni Choir and hopes to reunite with them someday.
When life brought him to Dallas, Randy rediscovered his love for singing through his synagogue choir, which eventually connected him back to community choral singing.

Surprising fact: Randy was a Naval Aviator in the mid-70s, flying a variety of aircraft.
When not singing: He’s a passionate gardener and a Collin County Master Gardener.
Favorite movies: Top Gun and The Hunt for Red October (no surprise there!).
Dream performance: Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, or Barbra Streisand.
Bucket list: Traveling to Ireland to explore his father’s roots—and maybe taking that Alaskan cruise (his wife’s pick!).
